Advice on getting rid of flies?

I live in the UK in Bedfordshire and built my own house around seven years ago. We have converted the attic space to an extra bedroom but have had constant trouble (winter and summer) with flies breeding and constantly have up to 10 - 20 flies on the go at one time. We have tried fly-papers and UV fly-traps like those used in restaurants but with no success. Can anyone offer any advice on how we could get rid of them?!?

Thanks!Advice on getting rid of flies?
You have two problems. The breeding ground, which is probably on the outside of the house around the perimeter, and the flies entrance to the house. As you say the house is new, so failry well tightly built, but it doesn't take much for flies to get in.

Locate the breeding source and where maggots may living (garbage bins near the house, or rural setting it may be animal waste. Eradicate the problem, or treat the problem with insecticide that won't harm humans or animals in vicitinty.

Check screening around the perimeter of the house, patch any holes. Seal any holes on interior walls, and caulk any exterior entry points. It may take several go overs to get them all.

Kill off flies in the house, they may be reproducing in the house too, and you need to do some detective work. Waste bins seem logical, but I am betting you have done that, but look at household plants, many insects including flies will breed and incubate in damp soils of plants with mouldering root systems.Advice on getting rid of flies?
get one of those blue light thingys

hairspray and lighter!!!

honestly it is the best way of gettin rid off them
They have got to be coming from somewhere. Find out the source seek and destroy, the attraction is probably due to a certain type of fly. Catch or pick up a dead one and research what makes it attracted to your dwelling, there's probably a simple solution to getting rid of them for good.

Is there a tip nearby or a few miles away, this can be the cause also.
clean your house!
I purchased a property and had similar problems ,in the end we diagnosed it to the roof, pest control left bombs hope this helps
Get a jam jar, half fill it with water, put a couple spoons of jam in, cut a small hole in the lid and put that on...the flies go in for the jam and drown...works a treat, much better than spraying fly spray around!
its obviously something thats causing this, because thats not normal at all. you need to check your attic for dead mice, birds etc, there was maggots somewhere up there to cause this. i,d give the attic a good clear out, clean it well, use jeyes fluid. fly sprays, i,m NOT saying your house is dirty but you need to have a good look in the attic. GOOD LUCK!
bug spray...flyswatter or just get rid of the smell....
Call the council, they will send in an exterminator for a fee.
Growing up on a farm in the US, we have had the same problem. One of the best ways we found to deal with the flies is an improvised fly trap. You take a mason jar, a funnel, and some meat or anything else that will attract flies. You prop the funnel up on a block or something and place the mason jar ontop of it with the bait inside. This causes the flies to fly inside the jar, but because of the way a funnel is made, they cant get out. It also works for fish traps but thats a different story.
You should go to a garden centre and ask them if they can give you a flytrap which you hang outside in the garden away from the house. It is similar to a wasp trap, but the powder which you mix with water smells bad. The flies will go into the trap after the smell, but they cannot get out. The lifetime of the trap should be about 6 months. Try to hang it in an area where it catches the sun as long as possible during the day. Our neighbours used to have pigeons and they attracted a lot of flies, but the trap worked like a bomb.
Find out what they're living on and remove it.

Or get more spiders.
there are fly jars here in the us they lure the flys with a stinky substance, then they can't get out, but I supplement with the fly ribbons.
You could try finding if the flies are nesting somewhere.....Try Rentokil there are not as expensive as you thing and might be better than keep spending money trying to solve the problem.
Keep spiders
