What advice should we offer new poets who want to have their poems published?

Many excellent new poets would like to see their poems published. How should we help them to be noticed? What advice should we offer new poets who want to have their poems published?
I'm glad you asked. My company is a book publisher. Tangled Web Press publishes poetry from Internet Poets. You can read all about it at poetsofmars.com...or ask 20 of your favorite poets from Yahoo! They can tell you what happens. TDWhat advice should we offer new poets who want to have their poems published?

I`ve been to ';Poets of Mars .Com. I`ve been following you

all for months. I am a new poet. I would like you to give me some advice.
When it comes to my own work I feel that poetry is not enough to get me noticed... I used to do it for therapeutic release alone but now I see how it can help inspire... I have already been through this but for others, always let them know that their work is of value and remember, they will not always know the logistics. That is most often why they stay concealed... only with much digging will they be found.... But hey. you found me didn't you?
First of all if they are saved it's really simple If the Lord has bless them with that talent then that's whom they should be getting there lead from. Following the leading of the Father will put him or her just where they should be. Being blessed and profitable.

Any advice on how to get paint out of jeans, without having to wash them 50 times?

I got some green paint on my jeans the other day, accidently swiped them with the paint brush. I tried the tide-to-go pen, but that didn't work very well. I've used shout spot remover on similar stains, but you still have to wash them like a bunch of times before it will come out. any suggestions?Any advice on how to get paint out of jeans, without having to wash them 50 times?
Paint thiner, mineral spirits, brush on wait 10-20 minutes try again wash. scrub with tooth brush or heaver brush. works all the time I;m a painter.Any advice on how to get paint out of jeans, without having to wash them 50 times?
Stain removers really don't work on paint. You need to get actual paint thinner. Either that, or if it's just a little bit of paint, you may be able to flake it off.
There's something called Goof's Off that's good to get paint out.
first rub the affected area with ice cubes, may be quite a few of it, then take a thick knife and scratch vigorosly, till the paint comes out.

if it doesnt u can rub alchohol or spirit or even ur nail polish remover for somtime and allow it to dry, then scartch it off

hope this works!!

oderwise, u can keep it to stay or brush afew more strokes randomly with colors, crash ur jeans to get the hip look in no time and wthout extra bucks!!!
MAYBE YOU COULD DYE THEM, OR TAKE THEM TO THE CLEANERS.
try paint thinner......or this stuff called Goof off.....but for the most part , paint is tough to get out......and next time don't try to look all cute when you are painting....you need to wear clothes you don't mind getting paint on

Any advice on how I can make my pen cap stay on?

I have a fountain pen with a screw-on pen cap. After about a year of usage, the cap lost its grip. No matter how much I twist the pen, it wont stay. Now I absolutely love this pen, but when I use it without the cap, the ink runs out very quickly. So any advice on how I can maybe fix the problem...without buying a new pen?Any advice on how I can make my pen cap stay on?
Blue-Tack of course!!! I use it all the time on my work pens! ( :

Try it and see! It works. I used to lose so many pen-lids, that all my pens were starting to dry up as a result! o:

My Poppa's tip actually... a ';handyman sort of bloke';, he is always coming up with something simple and ingenious like that!

Hope I helped you out with the ';Runaway Lid Dilemma'; anyway -

Good Luck!( :

You can try some rubber cement, it won't glue the cap on but it will make it harder to pull off. I don't know how long it will hold up though.
teflon tape it

What advice is out there for the efficient and effective use of my two wall unit air conditioners?

My wife and I are trying to figure this out, we never had wall units just central air. We plan on getting central air by next summer. What advice is out there for the efficient and effective use of my two wall unit air conditioners?
I use small 12'; oscillating fans which bring the A/C temp down about 2 degrees. they are good at mixing the cold air around the room SHAWWhat advice is out there for the efficient and effective use of my two wall unit air conditioners?
Fans are a good idea. Or if you have the option to run the furnace fan without heat that will circulate the air.

Basically other than keeping the filter clean and annually cleaning the coils there is little you can do to make the units themselves more efficient.

There are the things you can do to keep heat out of the house but that is true with all cooling (sun shades, drapes, drafts, insulation, attic fan,...). But that is a separate issue.

They likely are fairly less powerful than a central air. And one thing that will affect the efficiency is the ambient (outside) temperature. The cooler it is outside the more efficient the heat exchange.

So in that respect my best advice would be to start it early and not wait until the house becomes too hot before turning it on. Partly because they are smaller and partly because running it full out to cool a hot house in the hottest part of the day is less efficient and will be less effective.

But experience will be it's own teacher in that regard.

Just don't be surprised if it takes hours to cool down a hot house if you had if off all day while at work.

And something else. Reduce the moisture in the house. Run fans when boiling water or taking a shower. Reduce the number of plants. A/C units condense water and condensing water releases heat lowering efficiency until the humidity in the house drops.

And reducing humidity is another reason for running it some earlier to speed cooling when you need it most.

Good Luck
It's a good temporary solution as you can always sell them later.

Use them in the rooms with the largest volumes.

Try not to oversize for a room.

I have seen people install these in a hallway to try to cool adjacent rooms. This will not work well as small areas cool down fast and will cycle the compressor.

You could figure 500 square feet per 12,000 BTU on average. It depends on the normal high temperatures where you live.

If you have an unusual amount of widows facing south you may need more.

Use window shading in all the areas that get direct sunlight.

Try to keep any moisture producing activities to a minimum.

Use bath fans when showering and make sure dryer is vented properly.

Need advice on gluing magazine clippings to make collage?

I have a bunch of pictures cut out of magazines that I want to put on a poster board or in a picture frame or wherever. I don't want to do decoupage because it produces that glossy, rippled effect. I'd like the result to be bright and sharp (like an original magazine print). Any suggestions are appreciated!Need advice on gluing magazine clippings to make collage?
I prefer glue sticks. They're not bad for the environment like an areosol and they're cheap.

Cover the entire back of the clipping and place it down onto the collage. Easy!Need advice on gluing magazine clippings to make collage?
I'm not sure exactly what you could use. It isn't decoupage that produces the ripples, it's doing it poorly and allowing the moisture in the adhesive to warp the paper. Believe it or not, wetting the paper first is supposed to help this. Modge Podge makes a product specifically for paper but I don't know if the finish is glossy or matte. Actually (smacking myself in the forehead) you should just use a dry adhesive like a glue stick or glue dots. (Or Xyron if you know anybody who has one.) If you just apply the adhesive to the back, your front will stay as it was.Go to a scrapbooking or large craft store (like A.C. Moore, Michael's or JoAnn's) and ask them to show you the adhesive section of their scrapbooking stuff, and don't be shy about asking the customers in the aisle for help.
Try spray glue. It comes in a aerosol can like hair spray. You spray it evenly over your surface then gentle smooth our your pictures or clippings. Rubber cement will also work but does not always lay as smooth. You can also you a flat finish modpodge with a foam paint brush to avoid the glossy look you spoke of.

What advice would you give to make moving easier for a young baby?

We're moving into our new flat this weekend, and I'm a bit concerned that little one might get a bit confused, find it difficult to settle at night etc.

We're going to make sure that we make his room sorted before any others, and keep all of his stuff in vaguely the same place etc, but does anyone have any advice on what we can do to make it a smooth, easy move for him?

He's 10 months old. What advice would you give to make moving easier for a young baby?
Don't worry so much, he will be fine.

Look at making the move as easy for yourself stressed parents make stressed babies.

You are right to put his room straight first and familiar things etc. Cook something for his tea that he really likes and I know you will want to get things straight but try and focus on him as much as possible - in the normal sense - don't make an issue. I would avoid bath time on your first night.

Don't make major changes to anything else in his life. ie don't start five new toddler groups or leave him with strangers all in the same week!! (not that you'll have the energy)

Remember that this is going to be your home so relax and he will to - don't do a grand tour and expect him to take it all in at once. When he starts walking he will be into everything!

Good luck with the moveWhat advice would you give to make moving easier for a young baby?
My twins were about a year when they started walking, so you have your hands full! Glad the move went fairly smoothly thanks for picking my answer. Enjoy your new home

At 10 months he's hardly going to notice so I wouldn't worry too much, as long as the people he knows are there he will be ok :)
Make sure that his room is as prepared as possible. Have some toys and other things scattered about so that he feels more at home. Also, as much as you can, maintain meal schedules and things like that. The closer you stay to the way things were before the move, the easier it'll be for your and your son.

Good luck with your move. It's not easy. It never is.
he'll be fine. tell him that your going on an adventure and he'll be happy make it positive
Could you paint his room the same colour as he has now? Tell him you are moving, he can understand more than you think. Tell him what to expect and show him where you will be sleeping, so that he can see you are close.
keep him close to you and make sure you spend a lot of time on him and attention, good luck with the move xx
We moved for the very first time when my son was 12 months old. It was our first time living alone without my husbands parents. We bought our son a new stuffed animal to sleep with at night and when we moved on the first night we told him that his new room was a very special room and we also got him a night light that he picked out himself. He slept very soundly that first night. Of course now that he is three years old he refuses to sleep in his own room. Good Luck. P.S. One thing to do is to make moving day an adventure instead of making it stessful though I know moving is always stressful
Put him in a box marked ' This way up'
we just moved as we would have done anyway are daughter was the same age we had no problems at all
try to decorate his room as much as possible to be similar to how his old room was.

When we moved, my kids had their own rooms for the first time, they loved it actually. But we made their usual toys were near them there .
Tell him to keep his back straight and bend at the knees old bean. Tip top.
Have the baby move with some adults.

No, no. A serious answer to a serious question. Okay. Hire a counselor and sit down with him and the counselor and explain that you got thrown out of your apartment.....no, no.

Sorry.

I think the baby will be fine. Just have all his toys handy and accessible.
Babies actually handle moves quite easily so long as they have their favorite blankie and that there isn't a draft or weird noise going on.
#1. can anyone watch him when you are physically moving things?

#2. get his room set up ASAP.

#3. he's only 10 months old. he's not going to be any more confused because it's a different house.

#4. the move might not be smooth for any or you.

just pay attention to him, and get things going in the same routine as normal. if you can have someone watch him during the day, it'll go faster and easier.

  • What advice would you give to a time traveler?

I'm playing with an idea right now and I wonder, hypothetically speaking, you have to give advice to a time traveler, what are the top three to five things you would tell them to worry about on their travels?

I know the big one, try not to change anything. But try to picture your friend as the traveler, and think of friendly, real advice you might give them. Like, there is no safe sex when it comes to doing the nasty in the pasty. What advice would you give to a time traveler?
~Do your research first. Don't go to Communist Russia expecting rainbows and happiness.

~I know it's hard, but try not to cause a paradox. That means don't mess with anyone's parents, especially yours, because then you might not exist. But if you get a chance to save someone's life, do it. I know he/she will die. It's happened already. But could you live knowing you could have prevented a death...and did not?

~There is no such thing as coincidence. Everything happens for a reason, and maybe history turns out the way it did because you were there, and if you don't do what you did, America won't have won the war. What advice would you give to a time traveler?
Take toilet paper, toothbrush, soap and don't forget to wear the correct costume. A gun would be a good idea as well-or a force field if you happen to have one.Try to know the language too. Some of their money would be a good idea so you don't starve.
1)If you don't know what's going on,KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT

2)Act as though you're always being watched

3)Find someting to do to bide your time?

The time you spend apart will make your love grow stronger. Keep close, be open about your feelings and just think of all the positive things. NEVER think of the negative things. Count the days til you see him next not the days since you saw him :)Any advice or comfort for someone in a long distance relationship?
Spend the time apart to think of something romantic you could do to surprise him. Maybe a surprise visit? Some personal handicraft that you could send to him? Letters could be quite romantic too. What advice would you give for starting a Photography website?

I want to start a photography website, and was thinking on using Yahoo! Are they any good? I am making this site to mostly sell my fine art prints and photorestoration services. I want to have big pictures, but I don't want the pictures to be stolen. Any recomendations? What advice would you give for starting a Photography website?
For the display pics, make them small but not impossible to see and leave your logo smack dab in the middle, if you have photoshop or something similar turn the opacity down to where you can see it but its not solid. Hope this helps! Oh and keep the web name simple and easy to remember. What advice would you give for starting a Photography website?
Put all your images into a flash video so that they're harder to steal and easier to view.
I have an Apple computer. I purchased a .mac account for one year at $100. It's incredibly simple and easy to make great looking websites.

I have no experience with Yahoo websites.

Go to BetterPhoto.com It is a great website that has online classes, contests, critiques, and they also sell websites that you upload your photos to. You can sell your prints directly from it. Good luck and happy shooting!

What advice would you give a future doctor?

I am currently in year 2 of medical school. We hear lots of stories from patients themselves, and I always seem to get a lot out of their stories, so I am just wondering if you have any advice for how you would want your doctor to be. I am hoping to become a pediatrician (work with kids). All kinds of stories are helpful though - positive and negative.

I feel like I can learn a lot from where physicians have both excelled and failed, and I want to learn as much as possible so I can treat my patients the best possible.

Thanks so much. What advice would you give a future doctor?
I'm not a doctor but here is what I have realized after many years in practice as a physical therapist.

Just about every time I was wrong about a diagnosis was because I discounted one or more of my patients symptoms because I could not explain it, or it did not fit my best diagnosis. If the symptoms don't add up you may have the wrong diagnosis, keep searching for answers

Communicate with confidence. How you say it is as important as what you say.

It's hard when you first start out because you don't have experience to fall back on. Be honest with your patients if your not sure, assure them you will find out. Don't say anything negative or put yourself down where they loose faith in your abilities.

Many patients don't know if they are getting good care and often perceive good bedside manner as good care.

Learn, remember and call patients by their names, makes a huge difference.

One I hear all the times from my patients is how impressed they are when their doctors called them at home to check up on them. I know this is not possible with all your patients. Our pediatrician gave us his cell number to call him if we had any problems in the next 24 hours after our appointment. My wife and I were impressed and we are both health care workers.

Don't use big words, or if you do, don't forget to explain in simple terms.

Have a good sense of humor. When a patient is asked how their doctors visit went, they often think of the smille or laugh you shared with them.

Hope that helps. What advice would you give a future doctor?
I agree. As a nurse myself, it's nice to meet a doctor who values your opinions %26amp; takes your advice, after all, we generally know the patients better than you do! Good luck with your training.
For a future doctor, listen and take advice from old nurses

What advice would you give to someone contemplating suicide?

This question is open to everyone. What advice would you give to someone contemplating suicide?
Tell them that God loves them very much and does not want them to harm themselves. All things in life are possible as long as you have Jesus in your life as your personal Savior. What advice would you give to someone contemplating suicide?
well, suicide is unfortunately almost always a bad decision. the result is permanent death, end of consciousness i.e. game over. no extra lives. it is a recurring issue for many human beings. this is due to the human being's flaw of assuming any given reality of consciousness is permanent. For instance the death of a loved one causes immense temporary pain that the being perceives to be endless.

However, you have to understand human bodies are machines that contain billions of years worth of evolutionary engineering. They are extremely valuable, and your mind contains billions of neurons with thousands of connections each. This is no small feat of engineering.

Therefore it is best to do away with the concept of suicide and focus on achieving potential. Whatever the storm is, it will pass.
Just happened to me last week. A friend rang up (seeking attention more than anything) and I knew the background to it, she rang to say she was phoning to say goodbye etc. We are both Christians so I said to her that if she decides to do that then she will burn in hell and she will never see her 3 children again - now I know that sounds harsh (I probably won't get a job as a counselor!) but it's true and it worked, she calmed down and listened to me. More importantly she didn't do it and is taking each day as it comes.

Life is just horrible sometimes and it's all too easy for certain people to wish to 'opt out' but that's not what will happen, we know that taking our own lives will more than liekly (although we cannot judge the persons heart or how our Lord will judge them) end up in hell.

    x
I would ask them to reconsider carefully as they cannot reverse this decision, if they are sure that suicide is the only option, if they truly feel there is no way out, no way to fix their life. If they insist on killing themselves, I'm not going to stop them.
I would encourage them not to do it. If they could not make a promise of safety to me in that moment, I would encourage them to go to the nearest emergency room and tell the staff there of their suicidal thoughts so that they can receive appropriate care.
    ';Its the only decision you can't rethink.';

I wouldn't stop a suicide unless it was my own. I have no right to intervene, but I would say only what I think necessary.

I would change ';advice'; with different people.
Don't. Whatever this person has already been through and whatever battles they have fought will be for nothing. No one knows what's on the other side of suicide. It may be worse. Tell them to hang in there. It's almost done.

Because they will be asked on the judgment day about religion.
Give it a day. If life is truly that bad then how can it get any worse? Give it a day and see if the wind blows something your way.
Superglue your hands to your head, than hang yourself with piano wire, that way it'll look like you ripped your own head off.

    asylum- yep, loved that one
    They need to be hospitalized.
    the problem with suicide is, there is no chance of thinking it over and saying, ';This sucks.';
Pray for strength to overcome your trials. Live the life God has given you.
Go and talk to someone, anyone who will listen.

I am delivering a monologue tomorrow, but I'm afraid that my movement might be awkward or stiff. I was wondering what would help me?What advice would you give to actors that are stiff/awkward on stage?
Don't ever think about yourself when you're on stage. It's a massive trap that new actors fall into all the time. Don't allow yourself to go into your head. What advice would you give to actors that are stiff/awkward on stage?
well, you can start with trying to relax...

it might sound silly but picture your audience in their underwear. if that doesn't help put yourself in the characters position and just let go, become the character and have fun with it.

also, when you over-think the movements they look kind of stiff...[so try to just let it flow]
one of the most important things to remember, is to relax. If you are worried, you can get clumsy.

If you are just stiff, then you should stretch before you do the monologue.
Whatever you do, don't think about any of that. Just do what you would do in the situation your character is in!

I guess you should contact SRS or the state, you can always contact your local police department and they can hook you up with information on how to get on HUD housing

If you are collecting social security disability, please contact your local office as soon as possible to get hooked up with HUD housing. Here in Kansas, a lady that has schizophrenia rents a home for $11.00 a month but I don't know how much it would be for you

Google HUD housing in your area, there are plenty of ways to get hooked up with foodstamps and such. Find your nearest WIC office (Yes, I know that it is Women Infants and Children, but they are hooked up with the state and they can help you find a local office thqat will help you with foodstamps, shelter, and so on

Use your google search engine and find out stuff
There are plenty of resources in every community. There are always people willing to help. Are you willing to try/take meds to help control the p. schizophrenia? It may take time but you can get an apt./pt-time work, assistance. Start by contacting the United Way or any mental health facility, in your area, for recommendations.

Kudos to Sa for mentioning bugspray. I must warn you, the mosquiotes come at tourists by the hundreds, I swear to god they f8cking eat you up if you forget to use your commercial product.

The beggars are a foul sight, forgot to mention that. They steal if you take out a purse stuffed with cash, so just keep 100 ruppee bills in your pocket, that's about 6 dollars right?

And just look away if they come at you like zombies from Resident Evil, they do that when they see tourists. What advice would you give me as a first time traveller to India?
All parts of India are beautiful except big cities. I love places which are full of trees and which have fresh air to breathe unlike the polluted roads full of traffic.Well... I say that the best place to get air and trees is a quiet place like Kerala or many hill-stations. The best place with the best climate is Bangalore. If you want a hot climate, you should surely go to Delhi and if you want a really cool climate, then go to Ootacamund ( Ooty ) If you like old monuments, you can go to Kolkata, Delhi, etc. If you want beaches and seashores go to Karwar, Chennai, etc. The best hotels are The Leela Palace, Bangalore, The Royal Orchid, Bangalore, places in Mysore, Kochin, Ooty, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Chennai, etc. I'd better warn you to avoid small slum villages because the people will try stealing the money and stuff. Don' t drink unbottled water even if somebody tells you that it is Mineral water. If you have kids, you surely should go to Wonder La water amusement park on Mysore Road ( NICE Road )
In the cities, be wary of the terrible traffic and pollution. Don't miss out on going to some of the nicer small cities like Mysore in south India and DEFINITELY Cochin, Kerala. People tend to focus on Agra and Mumbai and miss out.
Get all of your shots, don't drink unbottled water, and either bring antibiotics with you or learn the names of some and what they are for because they have much different sanitation standards than we are used to.
    beware from mosquitos

  • What advice would you give to a busy, energetic person who is full of good ideas?

but never gets any of them completed. Someone in my family is like this. She's a nice person and artistic but soooo unproductive. What advice would you give to a busy, energetic person who is full of good ideas?
I'd love to give you great advice on this but...all I can say is that she's doing it for a reason. The fact that she loses focus %26amp; can't keep interest in projects may indicate something she is lacking in her life or something that's unresolved.

Maybe she believes she has to prove herself %26amp; doesn't know how to go about it in a productive way. Perhaps if you just ask her where she sees herself going %26amp; what she'd like to accomplish in the future, you'll gain some more insight to the behaviour. What advice would you give to a busy, energetic person who is full of good ideas?
simply never start another job until you have completed the first one, that way everyone will get the benefit of all your good ideas.

If you keep doing what you are doing it is all for diddly squat!!!
Some creative people have so much creativity waiting to get out that they have trouble actually finishing a project. They can get easily sidetracked and sometimes find it difficult to stay focused on one thing, because their brain is always turning. Maybe she could write some of her ideas down so she doesn't forget them. That way she may not feel compelled to start a new project before completing the current one. Just keeping lists or using a daily planner may help her stay on track.

    By the way, why does this bother you so much? Also, productivity means different things to different people. Don't judge her because she doesn't fit your idea of ';productive.';
    Cool it, man!
Delegate. Once she has an idea she needs to tell others. Then she needs to let it go and let others use their ideas to make it work

What advice does anyone have for getting rid of bumps and ingrowns at the bikini line?

Ive tried waxing and the ingrowns were terrible large boily spots like pizza! Shaving is my option but it looks like a minefield, what product is best for shaving used during and after the shave or what is a good hair removal cream, I want it to look smooth and less porous I need to get rid of the pizza!!What advice does anyone have for getting rid of bumps and ingrowns at the bikini line?
There really isn't a best solution to this problem, personally I prefer waxing since for me after a day or two the irritation goes away and I'm hair free for over 1 month. But if you prefer shaving, start by exfoliating really well (just don't take your skin off) and using shave gel, slowly shave in the direction of hair growth (you won't get as close but it will reduce irritation and shaving bumps). DO NOT go over the same area more than once, even if you don't get all the hair (another reason you get bumps and irritation).

The problem with that is....while you might not have bumps you still most likely will be left with visible hair.

What advice can you give me on overcoming OCD and scrupulosity? It is so hard to deal with everyday?

I am getting so tired and worn down from this disorder. I would love to find some relief. Please help! What advice can you give me on overcoming OCD and scrupulosity? It is so hard to deal with everyday?
A psychologist who specializes in cognitive behavioral therapy and has extensive experience with OCD can be very helpful. Cognitive therapy teaches you ways to deal with irrational or troubling thoughts. The behavioral aspect has to do with overcoming fears and anxieties through exposure to the things that cause anxiety. Medication can also be useful initially in dealing with OCD. Improvement, however, is a day by day process; there is no quick solution. It is important also to not be discouraged by setbacks - they happen, but they do not represent failures, just temporary setbacks. Try to give yourself credit for progress, rather than berating yourself for setbacks or for not being ';cured';. It is important to accept yourself. OCD is something that you have to deal with, but having it in no way says that you are a bad person. You did not choose to have OCD and while you can do things to improve your condition you cannot just will OCD away. Books can also be helpful in helping you to understand OCD and also learning that you are not alone, i.e., many others have similar problems. For scrupulosity, a good book is ';The Doubting Disease: Help for Scrupulosity and Religious Compulsions'; by Joseph W. Ciarrocchi. On the general subject of tormenting thoughts both of the following are good - ';The Imp of the Mind: Exploring the Silent Epidemic of Obsessive Bad Thoughts'; by Lee Baer and

';Tormenting Thoughts and Secret Rituals: The Hidden Epidemic of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder'; by Ian Osborn. ';Feeling Good'; by David Burns is a good reference on cognitive therapy. What advice can you give me on overcoming OCD and scrupulosity? It is so hard to deal with everyday?
Both OCD and scrupulosity are forms of neurological disorder believed to be attributed to chemical imbalance in the brain. They really interfere greatly with your ADL (activity of daily living), social life and relationships with family and friends --- depending on the severity of your case. It is best for you to see a doctor and have him/her evaluate you. Counselling and some serotonin-based medicines might be required.
disorder?!? don't be silly. your ';disorders'; are developed attitudes which come as a result of you being AFRAID of anxiety. what is the bottom of OCD? anxiety. so don't be afraid of you being afraid, or even more fundamental - don't being afraid of experiencing UNPLEASURE. you would be surprised how just a little discipline is required in the beginning - simply by saying no to compulsiveness.

and yes, there is no disorder (no matter what ';psychologists'; say) in being afraid because fear can be very frigthening (i am not playing with words).

Stop bitingnails? Get yourself a nailbitestopper which is a thin, clear mouthpiece to cover your lower teeth every time you get the urge to nailbiting. This will prevent bitingnails.

I had bitten my nails ever since I had 2 front teeth.......Put some nail hardener on and just tell your self, I will not bite,,,,,,then when you have a tiny bit of new growth, keep polishing them..........I have used as many as 6 coats of polish....my nails are long and pretty....I am so proud of them.........They are hard and I clip them sometimes..........
there is a clear nail polish with hot sauce in it so when yo bite them it is spicy.

What advice would you give to someone who has never driven in the snow?

Tomorrow I am forecasted to recieve 1 to 2 inches of snow and seeing that I never have driven in it what advice can you give me? I am in Pennsylvania if you are wondering about the road crews. I must drive in the snow to commute to college. What advice would you give to someone who has never driven in the snow?
Drive like you have no brakes - because you can't be sure if you have enough traction to use them at any given moment. Nothing is scarier that driving at 15 mph, hitting the brakes and sliding in slo-mo into an intersection! Slow and smooth, gentle corners, brake early, leave LOTS of room when turning in front of traffic, and leave LOTS of room between you and the car in front. Also, remember that you'll find a fair bit of ice as you approach intersections, since the cars that were stopped there have melted the ice a little. When it refroze, it became more slippery - also, spinning tyres tend to polish the ice, making it even more slick.

Good luck! What advice would you give to someone who has never driven in the snow?
Take your time and drive slowly, brake early and keep a distance back from the vehicle infront of you. This important if you don't have winter tires on. Check your tires and make sure there is enough treading on them and fully inflated to tire specs. The tire specs. are in lbs and post on the side of the tire. Fully inflated tires will give you maximum handling. If you do lose control do not step apply full pressure to the brakes or it will continue to slide, instead apply pressure and pump the brakes until you gain control.

    Becareful and be alert.
    go slow
Turn into the spin. If you turn the other way you will spin more.
Try to keep at a steady speed.

Don't accelerate or decelerate to quickly.
Just be very careful about accelerating and turning in the snow. Even if there is no snow on the road, there still can be ';black ice';. SO JUST BE CAREFULL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
turn ur 4x4 on and check winshield wipers
drive slow, easy on the gas and the brake.

do not do anything fast, hard or sudden.

go into a big parking lot and practice turning and ';losing control';. you should learn how to ';correct'; a slide by steering into the slide.
keep a steady pace, not too slow, youll get stuck, too fast you can lose control

do not slam on your brakes, pump them when slowing down.

if you can, drive as close to the middle of the road if possible ( all the extra tends to get pushed to the outside, harder to drive on)

give yourself plenty of time to get where you are going, and dont drive too close to the person in front of you.

stay off side streets, they are less traveled, and last to be plowed.

    good luck
DRIVE SLOWLY AND LEAVE ENOUGH SPACE BETWEEN YOU AND THE OTHER CARS FOR STOPPING. HAVE SNOW TIRES OR ALL WEATHER TIRES PUT ON YOUR VEHICLE, AND MAKE SURE YOUR CAR'S BRAKES ARE IN GOOD WORKING CONDITION. NEVER SLAM ON YOUR BRAKES, PUMP THEM SLOWLY TO STOP. START STOPPING AT LEAST A GOOD 10 OR 15 SECONFS AHEAD OF TIME.
Two hands on the wheel. Take it slow, leave early to give yourself enough time. Don't slam the breaks and expect to stop. A few slow short pumps of the breaks will stop you much faster. Try not to over correct if you start sliding or lose control. Which brings us back to, two hands on the wheel. Good luck.
a slow a steady speed is much better and give twice or more stoping distance.... it does take some getting use toyou can read about it and we can tell ya but still you have to do it to know what its going to be like just drive slow and dont brake hard if you do find your self sliding let off the brake and turn into the slide.... just drive slow and not so close good luck

  • What advice can I give a friend whose parents found out he's gay and are taking it poorly?

The question pretty much says it all. A friend of mine (who is a minor and lives at home) is gay, and hadn't came out yet to his parents. They recently found out on their own that he's gay and are not very accepting of the gay community. How can I help him get through this? What advice can I give a friend whose parents found out he's gay and are taking it poorly?
You have some excellent answers on this one. I thought I might add a link that may help. It's listed as the source below. PFLAG is an organization dedicated to promoting acceptance, and more importantly embracement. I came out when I was 15. I was kicked out of school, my church and my home. I was lucky though - I had friends and some family that cared enough about me to embrace me for who I am. Your friend is very luck to have someone who cares enough to even ask the question. Hope this helps! :-)What advice can I give a friend whose parents found out he's gay and are taking it poorly?
Tell him to just ride it out. Unless his parents want to talk about where he's sticking his di*k, it shouldn't really come up. And if they want to bring it up he has every right to tell them to just mind where they're sticking their own dix.

I went through a rough time with this myself and really, it's just about his sex life. If he was straight it would be none of their business if he got off on tying a girl up, peeing on her, or dressing up like pirates.

I just want to know exactly where straight parents get off thinking thier gay offspring owe it to them to discuss their sex life.

If they are not open about it than they have just cut themselves out of a part of his life. How many straight people discuss such intimate details with their parents? He should just not talk to them about his sex life. Most straight people don't have to discuss such intimate details! Tell him to talk about the weather or something. If they are such bigots then small talk about the weather is all they deserve.
Being there for him is the most important thing you can do. He's definitely going to need a sympathetic ear. It's unfortunate that he's a minor, because it means that his parents can do with him what they want, even if that means sending him off to one of those ';ex-gay ministries.'; I hope that things haven't yet progressed to that level.
I find it a tragedy that gay men feel they must inform their parents of their own private sexuality. It is not necessary. Your sex life is your own, parents are not comfortable with talking of any sex with their children, let alone being gay. A gay person must learn to accept themselves for who they are, and not depend on the acceptance of their parents. Never tell your parents you are gay unless they specifically ask you. Even then, it is none of their business, any more than it is the child's business how often the parents are having sex, or what kind of sex the parents do. Your private sex life, irregardless of your age, is yours, and yours alone. Tell him to stop expecting his parents to accept him. They never will. It is he must learn to accept himself..then his life will be fulfilled.
it will run it course sometimes is long and windy, or short and wild. if the parent has true unconditional love like a good parent should for their child they will eventually love him for what he truly is, and accept that there is nothing wrong with him. The parents shouldnt be thinking about theirselves in this situation. Its not easy being gay.
Continue to be extremely supportive and hopefully his parents will soften up. Remember they are entitled to their views but hopefully they will not push your friend away and still remember that he is their son. It can be hard on a parent but I think that both parties just really have to come together. You are a good friend for caring so much.
Just make sure he knows that you are there for him and just make sure that when your with him you have fun so he doesnt have to think about his parents.

They should being to understand after a while.
tell him to tell his family that if they love him they will accept and love him wholly.

Any advice on how to start eating healthier?

I am trying to start eating healthier. I do wish to lose weight, but I am not looking for a ';diet,'; but more long term lifestyle changes. My biggest problem is that I crave sweets and fatty foods. I don't like a lot of vegetables and/or fruit. I don't drink soda and I only drink 1 cup of coffee a day. I'm at a loss what to do because everything I read about healthy eating is contradictory. Any advice from those who have changed to healthier eating habits? Any serious suggestions from personal experience are appreciated!Any advice on how to start eating healthier?
There is ALOT of information about changing to a healthy lifestyle.

As always, eating properly (not the fad diets), and exercising are two of the BEST ways to get on the right track and lose weight. The suggestions above are really good, but may I add taking a supplement/vitamin daily. Not the Wal-Mart or GNC kind, but something that is a total coverage of what your body needs and may not be getting in your regular diet. This will help your body optimize what it does have, and supplement what it's missing. I personally take the Orovo Multi-Vitamin and my husband the Original. We both love it, and he's actually lost a few pounds (I'm actually trying to gain a few... sad I know).

The only thing after that is your coffee. Don't worry, I'm not going to tell you to give it up. But you might want to take a look at Skinny Science Coffee. It's a patented Fat-Burning coffee that is Certified Organic %26amp; Fair Trade. It might help give you that extra boost that you need. You can read all about it at http://skinnysciencecoffee.com

Warmest Regards %26amp; I wish you the best,

http://www.angelascoffeeshop.comAny advice on how to start eating healthier?
I started by taking small steps. First I slooooowly made changes to my breakfast. (my FAVORITE foods-eggs, pancakes) for example I now eat egg white omelet with spinach, peppers and mushrooms. But that was an acquired taste with much experimenting.

I joined Weight Watchers which really gives the best guide as to what to eat, and how much. I wasn't too fond of the scale. I learned that it can be deceiving.

Dieting is your lifestyle. What you eat is your diet. Whether it is fatty foods or healthy ones. Your diet is how you eat.

So start small and gradually work your way up eating less and less of the fatty stuff. It will take time getting your taste buds use to something different. If you are determined, anything is possible though. So far I lost 30 lbs. with eating healthy and exercise.
You can do (Body-for-LIFE) I know someone who lost a lot of weight by applying what she read in the book. You can drink coffee and you are allowed one day to eat what ever you want. I kinda did it but not that strict and I lost 25 pounds with 20 mins of running.

    Good Luck!
Sweets are my downfall! So I just started buying ';light ice cream'; and really measuring out the serving size(only 120 cals) or weight watchers makes some good desserts as well.

Most things are fine in moderation.

As far as ';fatty foods'; I made a rule for myself years ago...NOTHING fried except 1 day a week. If I go out on Sat night and want a burger and fries...I have a burger and fries...cuz I ate well all week!
i pretend the healthy foods are really good looking guys and the fatty foods are ugly guys haha

i got it from that commercial when the hamburger has a radio and the lady screams ';you just no good for me!'; out the window

it might seem silly but it actually works for me =]

What advice do you have for the Green and Libertarian parties?

    Mine:

Green party: focus on Berkeley and northern CA, Seattle, and Vermont and try to get people elected to city councils, county commissions and the state house, then work your way up to congress.

Libertarians: focus on AZ, WY, NH, and MT and try to get people elected to city councils, county commissions and the state house, then work your way up to congress.

DisbandWhat advice do you have for the Green and Libertarian parties?
You are right on don't waste money on the presidential election.

Get local support first. Then work up.

Part of the problem with the smaller party platforms is they tend to focus on just a couple issues rather than an overall platform. That can work in the regional races and even up in to congressional but for anything higher you need a well rounded platform.
No chance of winning any election other than statewide elections, they do not have a base nationwide to garner delegates or electoral votes (because of the 2 party system) for the presidential.

I agree with the answer above mine, they are in the race for Dems and Reps to scurry the votes in the Dem and Rep parties.
Your last sentence contains the key word, ';money';. Unfortunately, money somehow equates ';dirty'; in a two party system. (filthy rich ?). In order to compete the party needs cash. I'd say focus on building a war chest, be patient till the right candidate comes along (?). Rebuilt your core values (based on some Ralph Nader ideas, but, adopt them as your own (?) Seek the support of Nobel Peace Prize winners %26amp; other intellectuals. You need to sell baby sell !
    Vote for Obama.

He supports pro-environmental policies -- that's good for the greens.

He authored the Google-for-Goverment Bill that helps ordinary citizens keep track of where their tax money is being spent -- that's good for libertarians.

    He's the best candidate, period.
Green party= Gang Green....... Go Hug a tree and don't bother voting.

Libertarians= Mess........ Vote for Mccain. you don't have a candidate whith legs.
    Vote Obama. He is boss.
    gain more publicity...
they work for reps and dems in order to take votes from candidates from either side

Need advice on choosing a Ford or Mazda that is good on gas mileage?

What are Ford and Mazda cars (model years 2000 and up) that are smaller/good on gas mileage? Trying to find a mom car!Need advice on choosing a Ford or Mazda that is good on gas mileage?
    Quality

Mazda 3 is the most reliable car in Europe - ever.

That's the result of German TUV industrial audit. TUV is the largest quality audit instutition in the world. Mazda has most vehicles in the top 20. BTW, all Mazda3 cars are made in the same factory in Japan. See the links for details.

    Mileage

As for mileage, for the 2000 model year you'd be better off with Mazda - Brother's 1999 Mazda Protege with 225,000 miles with a 1.8 liter engine runs at 36 mpg. My old 2.0 liter 1998 Mazda 626 (auto) has average at 30mpg with 100,000 miles.

Untill 2001-2, Ford used their own engines, which were then replaced with Mazda's MZR powerplants (that goes for all Ford Duratec bradned engines between 1.5 and 2.5 so the mileage got more levelled.

    General comments

However, Mazda has alway had better chassis than Ford in comparable models.

Just for the record, we never had any problems with our cars. Nor had our father with his 2002 Mazda6 2.3 liter and Mazdaspeed6.

To sum up - late generation Protege, say 2002-2003, would serve your mother well. Little more upmarket you'd have an early 2002 Mazda6, slightly larger and more comfortable.

P.S. Ford owns Volvo Cars, but it doesn't own Mazda. Ford is the largest single share-owner (33.9%) and doesn't have decisive majority. Volvo, Mazda and Ford co-develop nad share many components, especially in European models (Mazda3, Volvos C30, S40, V40 and European Ford Focus share jointly developed chassis platform). US Focus is a different car.

The only Mazda that is a rebadged Ford is Mazda Tribute. All other Mazda cars are developed and manufactured by Mazda.

You may be interested to know, that a Jaguar X-type is essentially a previous generation Ford Mondeo. Even some body parts are 100% identical. Ford recently sold Jaguar to Indian manufacturer TATA.Need advice on choosing a Ford or Mazda that is good on gas mileage?
I would suggest a Ford if you look at what consumer report says that Ford is as good as a toyota cars now. Mazda falls short of that. Also if you buy a Ford you are helping to keep Americans in jobs. You can also find a Ford dealership and parts at any parts store and you want find that with a mazda
Willaims obviously doesnt read consumer reports, They just ranked Mazda #4 overall, ford 10th. Ford doesnt offer a whole lot int he US worth looking at in a small car. Mazda makes the 3 in a 2.0 liter that gets a good 30 mpg. 150 Hp and low diaplacement. The are is cheap and relaible as well.
Choose the mazda because Ford tends to lie about there gas mileage it could be 35 bt it is really 25 but mazda donsnt the bad part of this is that mazda is a brother company of ford so whater it says on the sticker you will probubly get alot lower.
Mazda 3. The Mazda 3 is the best small car sold in America. And horserider8000 is an idiot. Ford doesn't publish the numbers on the sticker, the EPA does. All cars go through the same tests to get their EPA numbers on the sticker. There is no possible way for Ford to lie about it.
I bought a Mazda 3 a little over a month ago and am loving it. previously I had a Civic. The gas mileage is slightly less w/ the Mazda but it still does good. Mine is a 4 door but it's not a big sedan.
go with the Mazda 3. Higher rating and much higher trade in value. The true test is total mileage. Mazda's are known for longevity. They're fun to drive. Cool song too. ZOOM ZOOM ZOOM
Did you know Ford owns Mazda?!

I suggest reading the details of the cars on their websites, they usually list the average gas mileage.
In Fords, I'd recommend lookiung at the Ford Escort, Ford Contour and Ford Fusion.

    In Mazda, Mada3, Mazda5 and Mazda6
i go with William buy a ford

  • What advice would you give an adolescent girl that is being pressured to have sex by her boyfriend?

Anna is an adolescent in love with a boy that is 3 yrs older than her. He is pressuring her for sex. At the same time, her mother is constantly warning her about datiin an older boy What advice would you give an adolescent girl that is being pressured to have sex by her boyfriend?
tell anna to tell him to f*** off!!

yo, you have to tell her to not do it! you dont know how many times i regretted having sex at age 12! girl seriously, tell her to not do it! yes, her mom knows why she is telling her this....i dated a 16 year old, and i was 12, and my mom was like, don't date him and all that crap, but i still kept dating him, and it happened! girl you seriuosly got to tell her not to do it!! What advice would you give an adolescent girl that is being pressured to have sex by her boyfriend?
First, Anna needs to ask herself how well she knows this boy. If this is the only thing he's being insensitive about, then she should try sitting down and talking to her boyfriend. If he's not sensitive about her feelings on other topics, then she should definitely reconsider her relationship with him. And she should talk to her mother, either way. Sometimes, when you're young, its hard to talk to your parents about things like sex, especially when they're already telling you you're dating the wrong person, but in this case, I think its important. Anna needs to be patient with her mother, its a hard topic, and hopefully her mother will be considerate and patient with her.
I wouldn't keep warning her because that will probably make her want to do it, just to despite the mom. Have her talk to an older sister, aunt or just an older woman that she is really close with her to talk to her about the dangers. If it comes from her mom its one thing, but hearing it from someone she doesn't see as trying to ruin her fun, it will mean more.
Pain is a great way to deter someone. Next time he tries, kick him with sharp toed shoes.

If he is all into the sex thing then he is not into her and he is not worth it.

    Two little kids are playing ';show me yours Ill show you mine';

The little boy goes first. ';Im better than you are because I have one of these (pointing to his boy parts)

The little girl goes next. ';Im better than you are because with one of these (pointing to her girl parts) I can get as many of those any time I want them.

make sure to tell her that she'll have plenty of time for that kind of stuff later in life and that the circumstances are always different when a girl is dating an older guy. he might have more experience in this subject, when anna doesn't know anything, and shouldn't do something at her age. even if he is older, should HE really be doing the things hes doing at HIS age. if she agrees, they could both get into trouble. tell her she could get pregnant and how that could ruin her LIFE! she might have to drop out of highschool or college and not be able to support her family. good luck and tell her to say NOOOO
That's way to old for an adolescent, You could have problems in this kind of relationship!! And I am not joking, I am dead serious!! Yeah he's pushing for sex and he has no right trying to sleep with a young teen. Bet ya anything, if you get pregnant, this guy is going to split

REAL FAST!! This guy is just getting off on trying to get a young female in bed. This guy has no respect, and I don;t care what he says, this guy just wants you in the sack, and believe me I just know

    what this guy is thinking.

    Be Good To Yourself,

    God Bless,

    Peace,

    Emma
I would ask her if he deserves her virginity. Does she value herself so little? If he's pressuring her, he obviously does not love her, and she's lying to herself if she says he does.

If that didn't work, I'd ask her if she's feeling prepared for stuff like: carrying a baby for 9 months, being financially ready to support a child, getting up several times a night for about a year or two, etc.

Or maybe I'd show her pictures online of different sexually transmitted diseases.....let her pick the one she hopes to get.

OR we could talk about how people in general feel about sluts. Whether she feels like a slut or not, that is going to be her reputation once she puts out. There's NO WAY that boy is going to keep quiet.
Do not have sex just because he is pressuring you, if he really loved you he would wait, im guessing you are to young for this it wouldent be right and you will end up regretting it, your mother is looking out for you take her advice you should be concentrating on school not guys who are stressing you find some one who is willing to wait untill your old enough.
Don't do anything that you don't want to do. So I would tell, ';Anna';, to do what is best for her. If she is with someone who can't respect that, then he's definitely not what she wants to waste her time on. Chances are if he's pressuring her for sex, then that's probably all he wants. He probably thinks that she's young and stupid so he can manipulate her. I would tell him to f--k off.
some one needs to explain to her that boys and girls are extremely different. explain to her why boys want sex and how it makes them feel, and then explain to her why girls want sex and how it makes them feel.

she needs to know that boys dont have sex because they are in love, they have sex because it makes their penis feel good.

ask her why she wants to have sex,

ask her if it is really for herself? it should be

ask her if she thinks she is ready?

if she says she is why does she think that?

adolcent girls wont listen if you tell them what is right and wrong, you need to ask her what she thinks is right and wrong, and then ask her why she thinks those things

she needs to understand the consequences of her actions.

Any guy that pressures a girl for sex doesn't care about what's good for her. All he wants is the sex, nothing more. If he was at all a caring man...and I use the term loosely, he would be willing to wait until his girl was ready and not rush her. Sensitivity must not be his strong suit. Depending on how old Anna is, it might be worth it to go online to research teen pregnancy and VD. The guy that she's with I have a feeling has been with other girls before. She needs to know all the consequences of sex. I hope she wait's until she is emotionally ready for such a big step, in fact, I hope she waits until she's in a relationship with a mature ';man';. Hope this helps....
If she is being ';pressured'; then that is your answer.

Pressured is doing something against your will.

Anna, leave your boyfriend, if he is pressuring you then don't stay with him, you'll regret it.

I know its an old line but it still applies to today's society.

Be with someone who appreciates you and your values. Someone who is willing to wait.

start with the just say no stuff but the truth is that more often than not girls are gonna do it with a guy that pressures, my friend did and i just told her to be careful you know, no sex without safe sex. tell her that she's worth more also on the occasion works, and make sure to slap some sense into the guy let him have it
tell him to stop pressuring u. and if he continues then break up with him. that isn't healthy and if ur not ready and he can't respect that then he's not worth your time. doesn't matter how cute he is or how nice he seemed in the beginning. he's showing u his true colors and it will only eat away at ur self esteem if u give urself away to a jerk.
she should tell someone, not her parents, but someone she feels comfortable talking about that kind of stuff with. someone that probably knows her better and know what's the right thing to do in this situation--be it telling the guy to piss off, or telling him that she isn't ready for that and if that's not ok for him too bad.
to me it seems like thats all he wants from her and he can't wait until she is ready if he really loved and cared for her then I would think he would understand about her decision and not pressure which is wrong....she should dump him and move on to someone better even if its goin to be hard I don't think she wants to date him if he only wants sex
I am not sure what your relationship is to her- a friend? and older friend? just listen to her and support- sounds like that is what she needs- be honest with her about consequences- in the end she will do what she wants but you can help inform her of the pros and cons
Her mother is right, she should value herself more than that and tell this guy no, do not allow someone to pressure you into sex and also,if this guys really cares he wouldn't be pressuring her. I have a vicious Chi/Jack Russell mix that she can borrow.
I would tell the girl that the boy is not worth it. She shouldn't be dating a boy that is pressuring her to do things that she doesn't want to do. If he really did love her, he would understand she doesn't feel ready to have sex and wouldn't pressure her.
Trust me, this works, I used to tell my ex boyfriend this all the time. Whenever he'd pressure me into sex, I'd just tell him I'm on my monthly cycle since boys don't really understand that part of girls well, and then he wouldn't do anything.
No one should be pressured into sex much less an adolescent girl..She should respect herself and her body and if she is not at an age or mindset of being ready than the answer is no! and if this guy still doesn't listen...THEN SEE you later...bye..cuz obviously then all he wants from her is sex and doesn't care about her.
I would ask her, hypothetically, if her best friend, sister, or maybe future daughter would be going through a similar situation; what advice would she give them?

That's a good way for her to see the situation a bit more objectively.

Don't give in. Sex should be special and shared between two people that love each other and feel comfortable with one another. You should not do anything because he wants you too. You need to be ready and he needs to respect that if not dump his ***.
you say she loves him, but if he loved her he wouldn't be pressuring her into doing something so important before shes ready. she should tell him shes not ready yet and if he keeps pestering her, she needs to tell him if he doesn't stop she'll break up with him. then she needs to FOLLOW THROUGH.
well how long have they been dating?....if he loves her he would respect her decision...however, the legal age to have sex is 17 years old...its really up to her...if she wants to wait she should tell him that...but if she wants to do it than nothing will stop her...she just beter use protection!
Don't. it's best to wait till' your married to that special someone. tell him no and that you can find someone who won't pressure you. Sex doesn't make you feel more loved unless your merried. you just feel used. and what about when he dumps you?
i would have to tell ';anna'; not to do anything she is going to regret in the future... anna also needs to keep in mind that she is going to be pressured her whole life.. and that its u to her to make the rite decision
tell her NOT to do it. if the only thing he wants to do with her is f u c k, then i say f u ck him...tell her to dump that guy. i doubt she has real feelings for him--considering she's an adolescent and he's 3 years older than her
dump him. nobody should be pressured into doing anything they don't want to do. no means no and he should know that. and he doesn't need to try to take advantage of her. he either needs to quit pressuring her or she needs to leave him
    that boys not worht it.

the risk of std's and pregnancy is insane.

    and so not worth it.

that girl needs to talk to a pregnant lady and ';babysit'; a really small baby.

    she won't want sex anymore.

    trust me.
If he really loves you (or cares about you) he will respect you and wait. You have to question whether he is being your boyfriend because he wants to be with you or for the sex.

Any advice on using fenugreek or any other ways to increase my milk supply?

Any advice on using fenugreek to increase my milk supply?

Is it safe for me and my baby? What are the side effects? Can anyone tell me there experiences with it? Also, where can you find them besides online? Also, does anyone have any other advice on how to increase my milk supply? I pump for my baby, but it is not enough to feed him. I have tried extra pumping, eating oatmeal, and drinking lots of water, but my milk supply is always low. Sometimes I can make just enough, but after a while it will drop again. Right now it is so bad that I am only making half of what he eats. I don't want to stop breastfeeding and I don;t want him to have any formula, but I am getting really frustrated with my supply. Please tell me about fenugreek or other ways to increase my milk supply!Any advice on using fenugreek or any other ways to increase my milk supply?
I used fenugreek. You need to take a lot of it to make a difference. Three capsules/ three times a day. Taking Blessed Thistle with it also helps. When your sweat and urine begin to smell of maple syrup - you know you are taking enough. If you begin to have loose stools or stomach cramps, ease up on it. I never had any negative side effects. You can get it from a local healthfood store, even walmart.

domperidone is a prescription drug that helps increase milk supply as well.

Pumping is not an indicator of how much milk you have. The baby is much more efficient at getting milk out and supporting the supply. Moms who choose, can pump milk and never put the baby to the breast, but it is an uphill battle as the pump doesn't stimulate the supply the same way and you can lose the supply.

The first rule is to feed the baby. Even if you have to give some formula its okay. Any amount of breastmilk is going to be beneficial for the baby!Any advice on using fenugreek or any other ways to increase my milk supply?
Lots of great advice here already!

I'd love to know how old baby is. Your milk supply will be much better with baby at the breast than using a pump. Baby is much more efficient than the pump. Also, baby will stimulate your body to make more milk.

Take the fenugreek as suggested - be sure you smell like maple syrup. It works. RELAX. Drink lots of water and Mother's Milk Tea (health food store) - which I love with Splenda.

What makes you think your milk supply is low?

Spend the weekend with baby in bed. Snuggle, nurse lying on your side, rest, nurse some more. Take a warm bath together. Listen to lullabies. Nurse %26amp; nurse. You can also try the 1-2-1 switch: Get baby nursing until you let down, sontinue for a minute, switch to the other breast, then switch back to the first breast when he seems done or before he falls asleep.

Is there a lactation consultant from the hospital that you can call? I just don't want you to be fretting about milk supply if it's not really low.

Good luck and have a beautiful MILK BUILDING weekend with your baby.
I have never heard of that before but I was told by many to drink a beer before I went to bed at night and it really worked for me. ZI didn't do it all the time just once in a while and my midwife said it was perfectly safe.

I hate beer but it worked so i'd just hold my nose while I sipped on it! LOL
    Do you only pump? Try putting baby to the breast %26amp; frequently, he will be much better at getting all the milk out, especially the good fatty hindmilk. Plus the extra stimulation will help increase supply. Even if it's just for a few sips between ';meals.';

Fenugreek - take at least 2 capsules, 3 times per day. Mother's milk tea has fenugreek in it too... drink as much of that as your taste buds can handle! (I think it's yucky, but some like it). The only real side effect is that you smell like maple syrup. Blessed thistle is another good herbal remedy. Oatmeal... I've found that the best oatmeal is the maple/brown sugar flavored packets... because it's naturally flavored w/ fenugreek!!

this is the most comprehensive link... there's a lot of links on it, but worth the time to sort through:

    http://www.kellymom.com/bf/supply/low-su鈥?/a>

    http://www.lalecheleague.org/FAQ/increas鈥?/a>

Try a La Leche League group too. Also an IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) they really know their stuff. Lactation nurses are helpful, but not extensively trained.
I have used Fenugreek, in fact just stopped using it because we are weaning my daughter from the breast.

As with anything there are potential side effects. Please check out this information:

    http://www.breastfeedingonline.com/fenug鈥?/a>

. I took it in pill form, and bought it in the natural/organic section of my grocery store! If you can't find it in your grocery store, try to find a natural or organic market, they will surely carry it. I never had any problems with it, nor did my daughter.

It increased my milk supply after one day of taking it...in fact so much, that I had to taper what I took from day to day because the spray was incredible :) Bad for a breast Mom, but GREAT for a pump Mom!!! (I have done both). Give it a shot. Its very inexpensive, and the pill is better than the tea. The tea obviously isn't as potent as the pill form.

Best of luck, and give it a shot!!! My cousin used it for two years to extend BF her son. We are weaning only because of trying to conceive again. However, with the fenugreek, it I didn't want to, I wouldn't have to.

    Best of luck!!!
I was a young first time mom with my daughter and i had a hard time, were hoping baby number two will be beter ok so brewers yeat is a good one, mothermilk tea and of course one thing that made a difference i had the depo shot it actually lowers production too. ask your doctor make sure your not over exerting either.

Any advice for a violinist trying to learn to play piano?

Mostly when it comes to chords and using both hands to play at a time. Has anybody else on here done this?? Its confusing trying to play with both hands when I'm so used to bowing out just a melody!Any advice for a violinist trying to learn to play piano?
Cut yourself some slack. You didn't learn violin overnight and you won't learn piano overnight either. The concept of moving independently with the left and the right hand is a skill that your mind might be rebelling against temporarily. Try doing some of these exercises:

    1. Opposite scales. Go up with the right hand and down with the left hand. It's fun and it eases your right hand into the idea that it is going to do something besides bowing while your left hand has all the fun.

    2. Hold a chord with your left hand while you play melody with your right hand. then reverse the exercise.

    3. Play the piece independently, right hand, left hand, and then together very slowly. Slow the tempo down to half and gradually increase the tempo until you are just a little above your target tempo. When you return to the origianl tempo you will be amazed t how easy it now is!

Above all, give yourself time. You need time to make new connections in the brain, time to learn new coordination in your hands, and time to assimilate the whole process. Don't judge yourself by a skill you have already mastered. Try to enjoy the process instead. They are both lovely instruments in their own way, and it takes time to get to know them.

Any advice for an American citizen looking to work in Barcelona, Spain this upcoming summer 2008?

I am planning to go to Barcelona, Spain to work this upcoming summer. I was wondering if anybody has had any experience find a job there as a foreigner, specifically an American citizen. I would like to stay longer than the summer if possible, possibly up to a year, but I';ll take what I can get. Thanks for your help!Any advice for an American citizen looking to work in Barcelona, Spain this upcoming summer 2008?
I am an American who has been living and working legally in Spain since 1992. As another person said, it is extremely difficult, but not impossible, to work legally in the country. The fact of the matter is that most potential employers do not want to waste their time legalizing anyone who is just going to be around for a little while. But with perseverance you may find someone who is interested in taking you on as an intern...or working illegally in the service industry.

Another option is to come to study ';something'; and you can them work in the related field for obtaining job experience.Any advice for an American citizen looking to work in Barcelona, Spain this upcoming summer 2008?
    long hours little euro
What kind of work are you looking for? If it is the temporary, summer work type, it will be difficult to get legally.
I understand that the visa situation is this: if you are NOT a member of the EU, you can麓t get one. Can麓t get a visa, can麓t work legally, not on your own.

That said, you may be able to get something through CIEE, or some similar exchange program. Try searching Work Exchange Programs. link to Spain.
    ah! my people.

good choice my friend. no experience, seeing as im in 8th grade, but this is obvious--learn spanish. try teaching english to kids.

What advice would you give to someone trying to write mystery plays or short stories?

I want to be able to write a good theatre play or short story without it being predictable. What advice would you give to someone trying to write mystery plays or short stories?
Become a regular at your area's theatres, from professional productions to high schools, any time there's a mystery, thriller, or suspense play in performance. You will note that the playwright can get away with things on stage that would never fly in a movie. (Note that mystery movies made before the 1960s are often very play-like, so renting them is worth the time.)

Read short mystery stories, dozens of them, hundreds. Read the classics, read what's in collections and anthologies in stores now, read what's in the two surviving mystery magazines (they're going to be your main markets, at first anyway). Which types of mysteries appeal to you? What about them do you like, and what doesn't suit you in the others? Analyze your own tastes.

If twists and unpredictability are important to you, then planting misleading information subtly, without cheating the reader or audience, is paramount. Not only do you need to come up with each story's or play's twist, but you need to direct the viewer's attention in another direction without being dishonest about it. This is not easy.

Because you've seen the plays and read the stories, you'll have seen how it's done. What advice would you give to someone trying to write mystery plays or short stories?
I write short stories in my spare time and my advice to you would be to choose a topic and stick to it. Don't go with a title thet isn't going to take you anywhere. It is a waste of time. Every time I reread a story of mine i find a way to make it betterbso keep on reading them. For theater plays make sure you write something people can accualy say. Not like a real story where you describe everything.

    I hope I've helped!
I suggest reading some. All good pieces of work start by reading someone else. Read some and see their styles, get their ideas, then integrate them into your own story.
If it is gonna be a mystery make sure all of the clues are given at the right time

What advice do you have, based on your experience, growing garlic?

I love garlic and even though it is cheap enough to buy at the store, I would like to grow some. Please tell me if you had a good crop, when did you plant, what part of the country do you live in, did you do it in a pot? Just give me all of the the details. What advice do you have, based on your experience, growing garlic?
Garlic is a cinch to grow. Plant it in early Spring,4x deeper than the length of the clove itself, put a little bone meal in the hole, backfill, water. Garlic is very compatible w/ roses. It will send up green leaves, then bloom little white flowers, and then the leaves will start turning yellow %26amp; start to dry up. That is the time to harvest your garlic.(usually in the Fall). Hope this helps. I live in Texas,What advice do you have, based on your experience, growing garlic?
grow them in pots, or coffee cans that have both tops and bottoms cut out, and then buried in the ground.

Any advice to prevent urine from coming out of a boy's diaper?

I am having difficulty preventing my son from spraying urine out of his diaper. It gets all over his clothes and the carpets. I know the nurse tell parents to point his penis down before fastening the diaper so that the urine doesn't comes out but I am unable to do that with my boy. His penis is only about the size of my finger nail so it will not point in a direction. It's pretty much just upright. I use Pampers Swaddlers. Anyone have any other methods to prevent urine this problem? Thanks.Any advice to prevent urine from coming out of a boy's diaper?
Try using different diapers or move up or down a size. Make sure there's not a huge gap in the legs. My son always leaked if he was positioned wrong or there was too big of a gap between his leg and the diaper. Also, if the diaper was too small he'd saturate it and it would leak as well.

He may just need a better fitting diaper.Any advice to prevent urine from coming out of a boy's diaper?
We got rubber pants for our son to put over the diapers. They work well.
When my kids were little I never ever had that problem and the reason is that I never used disposable diapers. There are many many good reasons for using cloth diapers and plastic/rubber pants and this is just one of those many reasons.

With cloth diapers you can make them as big or small as you want. As thick or thin as you need. Thinner for daytime use most of the time and double or triple thick at night for that extra absorbency you need.

You can fold them to where the thicker more absorbent part is in front for a boy or closer to the back for a girl. You aren't dependant on a manufacturer to tell you what type of diaper you need to use for what type of situation. You can make you own as you need.

I had both a baby boy and a baby girl so I've had to fold diapers both ways to cover all kinds of situations and I've done it all with one style of diaper. A cloth rectangle.

These are just some of the reasons for using cloth, there are others. Think of all the chemicals in the disposables that you are putting next to your baby's tender skin.

This page will show you alot of why it's good to go with cloth.

    Good luck
    change them more often maybe?
i had that issue with Swaddlers. I switched to huggies and my son smelt like urine, so i than switched to Luvs and have had no issues.
aim it down! im a mother of 4 boys... it works
I go with a bigger diaper with my son. He is 17 pounds and I have him in a size 3. They are really for 19-28 pounds, but he was leaky too. With the bigger diaper, I don't have any problems. Try a size 1 diaper instead of the swaddlers. Aren't they for newborns? How big is he? Huggies worked better than Pampers in those small sizes too.
If you ';aim'; it down, best you can, just before closing the diaper, it should stay put. I had similar problems with that %26amp; with him spraying everytime I opened his diaper....ahhh boys.
Its kinda just part of the joy of having a boy. Another mom told me once that she would put a few gauze over his penis then fasten the diaper. Supposedly the gauze would soak up the pee a little quicker than the diaper would and/or it would help keep the penis pointed down, so it didn't leak as often. *shrug* I don't know if it really worked. Worth a shot if nothing else is working. Me? I've just always excepted it as a ';boy thing'; and made sure I always had plenty of t-shirts to change into. lol
He may need larger diapers, my son was 6 months in a size 3 or 4. i had so many diapers from his shower and they all sucked!!! i changed to LUVS and NEVER had a problem again. they work well with squirty little boys. lol
My son pees out at night so I use Huggies overnights (they're hard to find and sell out fast at Walmart). If you're having this problem during the day, you may want to check him and change him more frequently. If he's dry (or you've just changed him) and 20 minutes later, he's peed out, you may want to consult his pediatrician as he may have a blockage or a problem with his urethra (don't be alarmed, it's fairly common and can be corrected with minor surgery).

    Good luck!
