I have a drummer in the house and need advice on cheap soundproofing?

I need some very cheap suggestions for soundproofing a room, Please Please don't tell me about egg boxes they don't work!I have a drummer in the house and need advice on cheap soundproofing?
THANK YOU...Finally someone else who says NO EGG cartons. whew...

If I can assume that aesthetics aren't a major issue, I have suggestions.

Construction grade foam insulating panels, 4 x 8, Often Blue, and probably 2 inch thick would help.

Not knowing how many levels in the house or where Drum practice takes place, you might consider some level of insulating a ceiling as well, even with the installation of a drop ceiling. Carpet on the floor will help absorb some sound, as will fabric or drapes at any openings. In fact upholstered furniture in the practice room will add some sound absorbtion. A bookshelf along one or more walls,,,and that could help hide the foam sheets.

On a more personal note, you might arrange a schedule that accomodates everyone,,, even in some manner of compromise.

cork board does a decent job at deadening sound.
Use Q Tips for drumstick's. Nothing is going to muffle the sound.
If you're looking for cheap then the best and quickest solution would be practice pads for the drums. Anything else would not be cheap. There is soundproofing insulation available, but that would mean tearing down the walls. There is some soundproofing board available but that doesn't come cheap. Your cheapest way out is a set of practice pads.
I think you need to make the drummer take care of the sound proofing and make them do the research!
Basically you're looking for a material that is not flat and is instead contured. Foam mattress pads that look like egg cartons is realitivly cheap at Wal-mart. In recording studios they use several layers of drywall amongst other techniques. Carpet on the floor and walls helps. The more the better.
I used to drum. I used the corner in the basement. I collected and bought a few cheap used mattresses. They absorb the sound great. Put them on the walls and hang them from the ceiling. iItied them to the rafters..just drilled afew holes and roped them up. Jam away!!!!
