Any advice on how to repair the plaster on a chimney inside the house?

The chimney in my house goues through the kitchen and is covered up with some type of plaster, then wallpapered. I'm prepping to paint, so when i pulled off the wallpaper, some of the plaster has weak spots and/or holes. Can anyone tell me how to repair this?Any advice on how to repair the plaster on a chimney inside the house?
use dry wall mud, comes in a bag,get [20]

mix it up with cold.. water till like cake batter, use a drywall knife 2 fill the hole then skim it flat.use a foam sanding block to sand smoth 80 grit.if you put a small space heater on it you can sand it in 2-4 hours.or just wait till the next day

i do this stuff 4 a living this is the cheap way.Any advice on how to repair the plaster on a chimney inside the house?
You will have to chip away all the loose plaster then re plaster again, this will probably take several coats as you won't have any of the old lath board for the plaster to stick to since it was a hole for a chimney if the plaster is just coming off and the holes are small you should be able to mud over the plaster then sand to smooth.....try to eliminate as many weak spots as you can.
