What advice would you give a future doctor?

I am currently in year 2 of medical school. We hear lots of stories from patients themselves, and I always seem to get a lot out of their stories, so I am just wondering if you have any advice for how you would want your doctor to be. I am hoping to become a pediatrician (work with kids). All kinds of stories are helpful though - positive and negative.

I feel like I can learn a lot from where physicians have both excelled and failed, and I want to learn as much as possible so I can treat my patients the best possible.

Thanks so much. What advice would you give a future doctor?
I'm not a doctor but here is what I have realized after many years in practice as a physical therapist.

Just about every time I was wrong about a diagnosis was because I discounted one or more of my patients symptoms because I could not explain it, or it did not fit my best diagnosis. If the symptoms don't add up you may have the wrong diagnosis, keep searching for answers

Communicate with confidence. How you say it is as important as what you say.

It's hard when you first start out because you don't have experience to fall back on. Be honest with your patients if your not sure, assure them you will find out. Don't say anything negative or put yourself down where they loose faith in your abilities.

Many patients don't know if they are getting good care and often perceive good bedside manner as good care.

Learn, remember and call patients by their names, makes a huge difference.

One I hear all the times from my patients is how impressed they are when their doctors called them at home to check up on them. I know this is not possible with all your patients. Our pediatrician gave us his cell number to call him if we had any problems in the next 24 hours after our appointment. My wife and I were impressed and we are both health care workers.

Don't use big words, or if you do, don't forget to explain in simple terms.

Have a good sense of humor. When a patient is asked how their doctors visit went, they often think of the smille or laugh you shared with them.

Hope that helps. What advice would you give a future doctor?
I agree. As a nurse myself, it's nice to meet a doctor who values your opinions %26amp; takes your advice, after all, we generally know the patients better than you do! Good luck with your training.
For a future doctor, listen and take advice from old nurses

What advice would you give to someone contemplating suicide?

This question is open to everyone. What advice would you give to someone contemplating suicide?
Tell them that God loves them very much and does not want them to harm themselves. All things in life are possible as long as you have Jesus in your life as your personal Savior. What advice would you give to someone contemplating suicide?
well, suicide is unfortunately almost always a bad decision. the result is permanent death, end of consciousness i.e. game over. no extra lives. it is a recurring issue for many human beings. this is due to the human being's flaw of assuming any given reality of consciousness is permanent. For instance the death of a loved one causes immense temporary pain that the being perceives to be endless.

However, you have to understand human bodies are machines that contain billions of years worth of evolutionary engineering. They are extremely valuable, and your mind contains billions of neurons with thousands of connections each. This is no small feat of engineering.

Therefore it is best to do away with the concept of suicide and focus on achieving potential. Whatever the storm is, it will pass.
Just happened to me last week. A friend rang up (seeking attention more than anything) and I knew the background to it, she rang to say she was phoning to say goodbye etc. We are both Christians so I said to her that if she decides to do that then she will burn in hell and she will never see her 3 children again - now I know that sounds harsh (I probably won't get a job as a counselor!) but it's true and it worked, she calmed down and listened to me. More importantly she didn't do it and is taking each day as it comes.

Life is just horrible sometimes and it's all too easy for certain people to wish to 'opt out' but that's not what will happen, we know that taking our own lives will more than liekly (although we cannot judge the persons heart or how our Lord will judge them) end up in hell.

x
I would ask them to reconsider carefully as they cannot reverse this decision, if they are sure that suicide is the only option, if they truly feel there is no way out, no way to fix their life. If they insist on killing themselves, I'm not going to stop them.
I would encourage them not to do it. If they could not make a promise of safety to me in that moment, I would encourage them to go to the nearest emergency room and tell the staff there of their suicidal thoughts so that they can receive appropriate care.
';Its the only decision you can't rethink.';

I wouldn't stop a suicide unless it was my own. I have no right to intervene, but I would say only what I think necessary.

I would change ';advice'; with different people.
Don't. Whatever this person has already been through and whatever battles they have fought will be for nothing. No one knows what's on the other side of suicide. It may be worse. Tell them to hang in there. It's almost done.

Because they will be asked on the judgment day about religion.
Give it a day. If life is truly that bad then how can it get any worse? Give it a day and see if the wind blows something your way.
Superglue your hands to your head, than hang yourself with piano wire, that way it'll look like you ripped your own head off.

asylum- yep, loved that one
They need to be hospitalized.
the problem with suicide is, there is no chance of thinking it over and saying, ';This sucks.';
Pray for strength to overcome your trials. Live the life God has given you.
Go and talk to someone, anyone who will listen.

  • What advice would you give to actors that are stiff/awkward on stage?

I am delivering a monologue tomorrow, but I'm afraid that my movement might be awkward or stiff. I was wondering what would help me?What advice would you give to actors that are stiff/awkward on stage?
Don't ever think about yourself when you're on stage. It's a massive trap that new actors fall into all the time. Don't allow yourself to go into your head. What advice would you give to actors that are stiff/awkward on stage?
well, you can start with trying to relax...

it might sound silly but picture your audience in their underwear. if that doesn't help put yourself in the characters position and just let go, become the character and have fun with it.

also, when you over-think the movements they look kind of stiff...[so try to just let it flow]
one of the most important things to remember, is to relax. If you are worried, you can get clumsy.

If you are just stiff, then you should stretch before you do the monologue.
Whatever you do, don't think about any of that. Just do what you would do in the situation your character is in!

    Hope this helps:)

What advice can you offer to me, a homeless person?

Hello. Someone please give me their advice. I am adult incapable of sustaining an income. I don't do drugs or alcohol, but I have been diagnosed with mental disorder known as paranoia schizophrenia.

Being evicted from my apartment soon, I have no where to go. All I want in life is to wake up knowing where I'm going to sleep and that'll have food on the table for the day. Please someone, offer me advice to get my situation improved, I do not know if surviving homelessness is within my capabilities anymore. What advice can you offer to me, a homeless person?
Don't you get disability money? Why don't you apply? I am sure they will help you if your schizophrenic What advice can you offer to me, a homeless person?
I guess you should contact SRS or the state, you can always contact your local police department and they can hook you up with information on how to get on HUD housing

If you are collecting social security disability, please contact your local office as soon as possible to get hooked up with HUD housing. Here in Kansas, a lady that has schizophrenia rents a home for $11.00 a month but I don't know how much it would be for you

Google HUD housing in your area, there are plenty of ways to get hooked up with foodstamps and such. Find your nearest WIC office (Yes, I know that it is Women Infants and Children, but they are hooked up with the state and they can help you find a local office thqat will help you with foodstamps, shelter, and so on

Use your google search engine and find out stuff
There are plenty of resources in every community. There are always people willing to help. Are you willing to try/take meds to help control the p. schizophrenia? It may take time but you can get an apt./pt-time work, assistance. Start by contacting the United Way or any mental health facility, in your area, for recommendations.
    1) Go the link below and pick up a copy of the Way To Happiness booklet.

    2) Read it and review how you are conducting your own life against that standard.

    3) Pick the precept that you feel you have screwed up the most and do something today to improve it.

    4) Continue to do 3) and change your life.

There definitely is a successful way to live your life and you can do it.

What advice can you give to teenagers looking for summer jobs?

Ok I am finally old enough to work and I really, really don't want to sit on my *** all summer long. There's 18 more days of school left and I want a job before school ends. I wanna make some cash so I can buy bigger things and pull my own weight. I have applied to 5 places and they all gave me the same answer.

So any advice? :/What advice can you give to teenagers looking for summer jobs?
What i did was i dressed up nice, u no look presentable. Talk to them and ask them if they are hiring. You should also go to places where most teenagers wouldn't think of looking, so u would have a better chance.
